On a journey with ChemE, polymer processing, voice, film, programming, semantic web, hackers, … , electronics, rockets, mm-ADT, web3. TRA: L2 , HAM: KI5CWB . Also author of http://adistributedeconomy.blogspot.com/ and http://bshambaugh.org/eispp/ .
Your Ethereum / web3 journey:
I learned about Bitcoin around late 2011 / early 2012. I discovered Ethereum in 2014. I began working in decentralized identity in late 2019, but heard about the origins of verifiable credentials in the w3c web payments community group. My first exposure to the distributed space was the linked data and semantic web interest group mailing list. Part of this community worked on personal data stores which also intersects with the decentralized identity community. My motivation to get involved was a research journey to build peer-to-peer software to support peer production.

If you can help me get this running using the on-board secure memory on the esp32 then that would be great. Otherwise, a cryptographic co-processor could help. I’m rushing to prepare for the buidlthon by studying react and solidity so I do not know how much time I will be able to devote. code for the Blinky Project that I could use is linked to from the Github link for the Christmas Tree Breathalyzer.

Link to Maker Project:
https://github.com/bshambaugh/ChristmasTreeBreathalyzer
Maker Project Description:
My project at the core uses an alcohol sensor to turn on a Christmas tree. To my knowledge, alcohol sensors are not typically included in Christmas decorations. See the link to the Maker Project for pictures and a video demonstration.
Which category best describes your Maker Project?:
Hardware hack.
Project Inspiration & Impact:
I almost bought led Christmas tree kits for a craft fair, but later reconsidered when I saw alcohol sensors for sale. When I thought of using the alcohol sensor board to turn on the Christmas tree, I was amused.
Technical Details:
Soldering Iron. ESP32 SoC. MP3 Player. Led Christmas tree kit. Wires. SD Card. Plastic snow. Bottom of plastic milk jug. Alcohol sensor/relay.
Setup Requirements:
Power access is optional. I can run on a battery pack. If I manage to get the ESP32 to connect to the ceramic network like in my Blinky Project then I need internet. Dimensions: 8 in x 8in x 6 in.
Audience Interaction?:
Yes. The tree can be turned on with an alcohol source. (A switch on the side of the case can also turn on the tree.) For testing, I use Listerine mouthwash.
Has this project been displayed before?:
I took it to a holiday party. several people with adult beverages managed to trigger it. I also hosted a workshop where a couple showed up and assembled a kit.
Availability:
Sunday, February 23rd, Monday, February 24th, Tuesday, February 25th, Wednesday, February 26th, Thursday, February 27th, Friday, February 28th, Saturday, March 1st, Sunday, March 2nd
